Science Festival

Welcome to Royal Holloway Science Festival. We have run our hugely popular science open day for over 30 years, celebrating science and attracting large audiences each year.

At Royal Holloway, we have a thriving science community with world-class pioneering research across the spectrum of science, and it's important for us to engage the next generation in these subjects and make it fun.

Our Science Festival is an opportunity to experience a range of interactive displays and talks from, and for, people with a passion for science and technology.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at the 2026 science festival on Saturday 28 March

Special guests at our festival included talks on the Unexpected Maths of Juggling from maths champion juggler, Colin Wright, and a Guided tour of the darker reaches of the Periodic Table with Hal Sosabowski, Professor of Public Understanding of Science. Visitors watched live Physics demos to explore the rise of superconductors, and discovered how satellite technologies map glaciers reacting to climate change. Budding scientists could get hands-on and have a go at extracting DNA from strawberries or inventing an animal, challenge a robot or explore virtual worlds of illusions and more - there really was something for everyone!

We also welcomed back the ever popular Gauge One Model Railway Association Surrey with their miniature steam trains based at our Omnidrome centre.

Royal Holloway Science Festival will return in spring 2027 - join us again for a fun and educational day for all ages, where discoveries await at every corner. Where will your curiosity lead you?
