Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?
I am currently working as a professional actress. Just weeks after submitting my dissertation, in 2021, I began the long process of looking for an agent. After lots of rejection I found an agent and began auditioning for various opportunities. Since graduating, I have been in 2 TV shows. I was featured in ‘The Marlow Murder Club’, a murder mystery show from the creator of the popular series ‘Death in Paradise’. I was also featured in the BBC drama ‘Mr Loverman’ which saw great success at the BAFTAs, with taking home the awards for Best Leading Actor and Supporting Actor. I am incredibly grateful to have worked alongside such incredible people, and look forward to more amazing opportunities!
What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career or influenced your path since graduation?
I was at Royal Holloway during an interesting time, as the last couple of years of my course took place while whole world was living through the COVID-19 pandemic. When I started in 2018, I held back on making friends and joining societies, which I later regretted. Starting in my second year, I vowed to put myself out there and get the know the people that I was studying with. During the first term of my second year, I joined the ACS society and took part in some of their events. I experienced a heavy loss in January of 2020 as, unfortunately, one of the girls I was becoming friends with had sadly passed away. After that, the first lockdowns began. It was a strange time, and these experiences taught me the hard lesson of not waiting to do things. I no longer wait for the perfect moment to do things, because sometimes you won’t get another opportunity. I put myself out there as much as I can, and I am constantly pushing myself to greatness.
What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway? / What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?
Royal Holloway has an incredible close-knit community. I recommend getting involved wherever you can, and getting to know lots of people! Every ‘No’ you receive is one step closer to your ‘Yes’. In the acting industry hearing the word ‘No’ can become normal - use the rejection to push you closer to getting your yes! Never give up, keep going no matter what!
What did you love most about your time at Royal Holloway? / What's your favourite memory of Royal Holloway?
What I loved most about my time at Royal Holloway was learning about my Black British heritage through the medium of my favourite subject, Drama. I felt very personally connected to the plays that we read and studied.
