Royal Holloway students joined local residents on Saturday 18 October for the Englefield Green Litter Pick, helping to clear streets, pathways, and green spaces across the village.

Around ten students from the Love Your Campus group and the Rounders Club took part in the clean-up, filling dozens of bags and chatting with residents as they went. The litter pick was organised by the Englefield Green Village Litter Pickers, who regularly bring together local volunteers to help keep the area clean and welcoming.

Pete Deane, who helps to coordinate the local group, said:

“I am delighted to say that after working with the Volunteering Coordinator I was able to meet with students representing the Love Your Campus group. They showed significant enthusiasm for helping with the Englefield Green Litter Pick on 18 October and promised to round up a small posse of fellow students.

They kept their promise and on the Saturday morning around ten students – a mix of the Love Your Campus group and the Rounders team – turned up to support the litter pick. These students were great – they entered into the effort of the litter-picking and met and integrated with the residents who were also volunteering to help clean up the village.

Royal Holloway should be proud of this group of young people – they have shown themselves to be an asset to the university.”

Richard Binnie, Volunteering Coordinator at Royal Holloway, added:

“It is encouraging to see our students’ commitment recognised by the community. Their enthusiasm and willingness to get involved show the positive role that students can play in local life.”

The event was one of a series of local volunteering opportunities supported by Royal Holloway’s Volunteering team, part of the university’s Careers Service. The team connects students with local charities and community projects across Egham, Englefield Green, Surrey, and beyond.
