"With good connections linking Egham to London via both trains and buses, commuting to Royal Holloway is a stress-free experience"

- Mara, LLB Law with Sociology student

Travelling to campus

Many of our commuting students choose to drive to Royal Holloway. The campus is on the A30, easily accessible from Junction 13 of the M25 and Junction 3 of the M3.

If you live further than 1.5 miles away, you'll be able to apply for a free parking permit. There are about 870 parking spaces across the campus, see our map for car parks.

Students with a Blue Badge may park in the designated disabled bays anywhere on campus, however they will still need to apply for a permit in the usual way.

Our car parks can get busy, but there are a few paid-for car parks in the local area. You could also book and pay for a space nearby on JustPark.

The Commuter Community host 'Find a Travel Buddy' socials where you might meet another commuting student you can share lifts with.

We're well placed if you'll be travelling to campus by train, with Egham station less than a mile down the road. There are different discounts available for commuting students which help to keep costs down.

Our nearest train station is Egham which is on the Reading to Waterloo line (South Western Railway). Regular trains run throughout the day and there are extra services at busy times. See National Rail for up-to-date timetables. The walk from Egham station to campus takes about  20 minutes, you can pick up the subsidised shuttle bus. This costs £1 and will get you to campus in under ten minutes.

Egham is outside the Oyster zones, so Oyster cards aren't valid. However, contactless payments are accepted between Waterloo and Virginia Water.

Discounts for commuter students

16-25 railcard can save you a 1/3 on rail fares. If you're living in a London borough and studying full-time, you may be eligble for the 18+ Student Oyster card to cover parts of your journey through London.

It might be cheaper to buy separate tickets for different segments of the trip. You can use sites like Trainline or Raileasy to find the best routes for you.
