Our teachers and tutors are experts in their subjects and bring research experience and real world expertise to the classroom. Many hold senior fellowships and other distinctions in pedagogy.

National Teaching Fellows

National Teaching Fellowships are reserved for teachers with outstanding contribution to student outcomes. The awards are made annually by Advance HE through nominations from member institutions.

Staff diversity

As part of our commitment to an inclusive learning community, we actively pursue diversity at all levels among our staff and provide development support. Programmes include:

  • Springboard - a programme for early career women
  • Advance HE’s Aurora - a leadership programme for women
  • Mandala programme for BGM staff

Our education structures

The Academic Board creates our education strategy and oversees all decisions related to education and teaching at Royal Holloway. Learn more about the Academic Board.

The Education Development Team supports the ongoing training and development of our teaching staff and provides support on learning technology, curriculum development, and teaching innovation. The team also supports postgraduates who teach.

This team runs various courses for Advance HE courses to ensure teaching quality. 

CAPITAL: The Certificate in Academic Practice in Teaching and Learning is a postgraduate certification required of all lecturers and senior lecturers at Royal Holloway and must be completed before the probation period. 

inSTIL: Programme in Skills of Teaching to Inspire Learning is for visiting lecturers, postgraduates who teach, lab technicians and anyone who interacts with students in the classroom. It helps participants develop knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support student learning and the confidence required for effective teaching

Royal Holloway’s annual Education Excellence Awards provide recognition of the excellent work in education that happens here. In showcasing, respecting and celebrating the exceptional work of colleagues through their innovative, inclusive and collaborative approaches to education, the awards embody our core RH2030s values.

Nominated by students and colleagues, the awards are demonstrated through the enhancement and transformation of student outcomes, raising the profile of excellence by supporting colleagues and/or influencing support for student learning, and the development of excellence through an ongoing commitment to professional development.
