Professor Carlos Cid (Information Security group at Royal Holloway)
For our first session of the Early Career Researchers (ECR) seminar series, we are pleased to host Professor Carlos Cid. Carlos will be presenting "no crypto solace in the quantum world — an introduction to quantum-safe cryptography".
Carlos is a professor in the Information Security group at Royal Holloway and a Visiting Research Professor at Simula UiB, Bergen, Norway. He has worked extensively in the field of post-quantum cryptography.
Abstract: Once we are able to build reliable and scalable quantum computers, the most popular public-key cryptographic algorithms, e.g. RSA and ECDSA, may effectively be considered broken. This emerging risk has prompted NIST to open a process to encourage the design and analysis of cryptographic schemes that are secure against both quantum and classical computers. During this presentation, we give a brief overview of the quantum threat to modern cryptography and discuss the recent developments in post-quantum cryptography.
Date: Friday 18 December at 11:00 am.
