This year’s Physics Christmas lecture will be delivered by Professor Moreton Moore, former Mayor of Runnymede and author of the book: "Diamonds - much more than a girl's best friend".

Beauty in science is more than just the occasional micrograph ‘looking good’. Beauty and simplicity are related. The simplest solution to a problem often turns out to be the correct one.

Microscopes and telescopes have extended the range of human enjoyment of beauty in nature. Optics offers many delights of colour; computer graphics has created a renaissance in spatial representation; and fractals are a beautiful application of complex numbers.
