Inspiring Sessions and Important Conversations

The Conference focused on how higher education can develop enduring and sustainable ways to promote sanctuary beyond movements of crisis. Over 80 students, 100 university delegates, and 20 third-sector professionals attended from across partner universities.

The inclusive and welcoming event provided thought-provoking workshops, such as the 'Temporary Relocation Schemes for Human Rights Defenders' and 'Lessons Learned in Enabling Sanctuary Scholars to Reclaim their Destiny' workshops. Our delegates attended a variety of events, gaining perspectives on best practices and guidance on our application to become a University of Sanctuary.

The Conference was sponsored by the Duolingo English Test (DET), an affordable, accessible, and innovative language assessment platform. The DET has been adopted by a number of universities globally, including Yale University, Imperial College London, and the University of Toronto.

As we continue building our application, we would love to hear from scholars and researchers at Royal Holloway on what sanctuary means to you. Please get in touch via email at SanctuaryProject@rhul.ac.uk.
