Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?

My career path has been both planned and full of unexpected opportunities. When I started studying my course I wasn’t sure which area of cybersecurity I wanted to work in, but my placement year proved pivotal – it exposed me to real-world challenges, showed me the kind of impact I could make and helped me build connections that led to my first internship role.

I always aimed to work in technology but I hadn’t anticipated finding such a strong sense of purpose in helping organisations defend against evolving security threats.

What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career or influenced your path since graduation?

The mix of technical learning, supportive mentors, and hands-on experiences shaped my direction in ways I couldn’t have predicted. Looking back, staying open to new experiences and saying yes to opportunities - even those that were intimidating at first - made all the difference in where I am today.

What impact did the placement have on your career?

My Year in Industry placement was transformational - I received a couple of offers and the placements team at Royal Holloway really helped me choose the one that was right for me.

The experience itself was a turning point - I gained confidence, built professional connections, and discovered the areas I was most passionate about. It gave me invaluable, hands-on exposure to the cybersecurity sector and allowed me to apply what I’d learned in the classroom to real-world challenges. My placement developed my technical skills and strengthened my problem-solving and communication abilities. The guidance and support from university staff throughout the placement made the experience even more impactful, helping me bridge the gap between study and a successful career after graduation.

What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?

Cybersecurity is an exciting, rapidly-growing sector, offering a wealth of opportunities for those eager to make a difference. If you're considering a degree, Royal Holloway is an excellent choice - the courses are well-respected, and you'll benefit from lecturers, critical and analytical courses, and direct connections to industry.

What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway?

My advice for potential students is to be proactive: take advantage of placements (it worked for me), networking & in-house career events, and support from mentors. Build your skills beyond the classroom and stay curious -  technology is constantly evolving, and adaptability will set you apart. If you’re passionate about making digital spaces safer for everyone, Royal Holloway will help you unlock your potential.

What did you love most about your time at Royal Holloway?

I loved the sense of community and support, especially as an international student arriving just after COVID. I remember feeling nervous about fitting in and adjusting to a new country, but the welcoming environment made all the difference.

The support from lecturers and staff went beyond academics—they helped me secure my Year in Industry, prepared me for interviews, and checked in with me even after I started my job.

And do you have a favourite memory of Royal Holloway?

My favourite memories are the moments when the Royal Holloway community came together: from friendly chats on campus to inviting new friends over for dinner. It was these experiences that truly made me feel at home and set me up for success beyond graduation.
