Royal Holloway rises in postgraduate research satisfaction

Annual Postgraduate Research Experience Survey results show strong satisfaction and top-quartile scores for overall satisfaction and progression across the University’s diverse postgraduate researcher community.

Royal Holloway, University of London has recorded its highest result since 2017 in the annual Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES), with 85 per cent of postgraduate researchers rating their overall experience positively.

The score places the University 16th of 89 participating institutions for overall satisfaction, and extends a two-year rise from 83 per cent in 2024 and 77 per cent in 2023. Nine in ten respondents rated their supervision positively, and 93 per cent agreed their supervisors had the subject expertise needed to guide their work.

Subject-level results were equally strong, while satisfaction among women researchers placed Royal Holloway 8th of 86, underlining the University’s commitment to an inclusive research community.

Professor Dawn Watling, Associate-Pro-Vice Chancellor (Postgraduate Research) at Royal Holloway, said: “We are particularly pleased to see the high levels of satisfaction that our postgraduate researchers are experiencing. This reflects our efforts in placing the post graduate experience and their success as a core part of our strategy work. We are working together, for what matters: supporting and developing researchers so they are prepared for the future they aspire to.”
